Urszula Ślusarczyk: “Vertical Fragments”

Urszula Ślusarczyk: “Vertical Fragments”

12.01 – 18.02.2018

exhibition opening: 12.01 (Friday), 6 PM / admission free

The series of works that I exhibit is an effect of an attempt to reconcile the rational and the spiritual elements in a creative process. I could call the road toward the form a sort of a “matter memory”, as it unfolds via references to a kind of material elements; at the same time, it is usually a specific record of time made in the matter’s structure together with a certain margin of ambiguity, so as the whole would allow some open space for the imagination. The form is thus situated at the junction of what is realistic and what is abstract, and is an attempt to overcome this dichotomy in the search for the lost sense of unity and totality. The space of a painting is first and foremost the space of silence, which becomes an opportunity to “make sense present” in a way.

This kind of creative attitude is oriented toward recognizing human nature in all its complexity. The integral way of perceiving human beings and their needs, also such as finding order or sense, is dependent on a timeline, which is expressed in the vertical orientation of the works.
