10. TRIENNALE MAŁYCH FORM MALARSKICH wystawa pokonkursowa

02.09–02.10.2016

otwarcie wystawy: 02.09 (piątek), godz. 17.00 / wstęp wolny

W tym roku Galeria Sztuki Wozownia w Toruniu już po raz dziesiąty organizuje Triennale Małych Form Malarskich. To cykliczna ogólnopolska impreza, prezentująca poszukiwania i osiągnięcia w dziedzinie kameralnej twórczości malarskiej.

TMFM w składzie: Natalia Cieślak – historyczka i krytyczka sztuki; Maciej Osmycki – artysta malarz, laureat I nagrody 9 TMFM; Matylda Prus – właścicielka i założycielka galerii m2, spośród 409 prac 153 autorów zgłoszonych do konkursu, do wystawy zakwalifikowało 104 prace 52 artystów oraz przyznało nagrody regulaminowe i fundowane. Rozdanie nagród laureatom 10. TMFM będzie miało miejsce podczas wernisażu.

10. Triennial of Small-Size Painting

02.09–02.10.2016

exhibition opening: 02.09, 5 pm / free admission

The Triennial of Small-Size Painting (until 2010 – Biennial) is an event that presents the investigations and achievements in the domain of miniature painting in all of its contemporary forms. This year’s Triennial marks its tenth edition. This special anniversary welcomes a summary and assessment. Throughout the decade of the event’s history, the organizers granted artists complete freedom in their choice of technique, theme and style. The single constraint related to the size of works: the decisive criterion at the Toruń-based event. However, the acceptable format of paintings has undergone changes with time. At the First and the Second Biennial of Small-Size Painting, the obligatory format had been really miniscule – merely 300 cm2, later, it was increased to 400 cm2, and since the 8th edition, it has been fixed at 600 cm2. The alterations entailed gradual broadening of the space for artists’ actions and helped to enhance the diversity of the works being submitted, moreover, they aligned with the ever-growing popularity of the event. The subsequent editions continuously confirmed the faith that the fans of painting have in the infinite potential of this art discipline, while the opening sentences of the Triennial’s regulations encouraged the artists to transgress the canon:

The constraint in format is not to be merely an alternative to large-scale works, but a chance for a condensed, substantial artwork that seeks novel painting solutions, fitting our times. By accepting all propositions, as stated in the regulations, we anticipate unconventional pieces, with a concept, stimulating a lively response, expectation-wise being the antithesis of the banal and the commercial. The small size, opening the field for reflection and metaphor, is also an experimental space, where something different and risky ought to emerge.

Speaking of the Triennial of Small-Size Painting, one cannot forget that, since the very beginning, it has been a competitive event, during which the presentation of the range of contemporary trends in painting and creativity in approaches to the small scale merges with reflection upon the value of the particular propositions within the context of the current artistic tendencies. The jury of this year’s edition of the Triennial of Small-Size Painting, whose makeup is the following: Natalia Cieślak, Matylda Prus, Maciej Osmycki, has qualified 102 works of 52 artists for the contest’s closing exhibition. The uncompromised attitude of the jurors invited for the current edition resulted in a relatively small number of accepted artworks, but at the same time, it guaranteed the selection of the most original propositions that represent best the contemporary small-size painting.
