Music is bodiless, illusive, it fades momentarily. All the forms of music notation, based on letters, notes or scores, attempt to prove that it is possible to present the sounds composed in the guise of a static image. Since the dawn of the phonograph, the typically written techniques for music transcription have become augmented with a technical apparatus for recording reality in a manner analogous to that of the daguerreotype. It was precisely at that moment when the idea of representing sound as waves had its origin. Contemporary artistic aspirations enriched these practices with less formal solutions, ones that are more surprising and unpredictable, pertaining to the effects of synesthesia and transcoding. Synesthesia involves mixing different sensual registers, whereas in transcoding certain data are being converted from one format into another or from one sensual register to another.
The exhibition encompasses different trends in the audio-sphere, the audiovisual and multimedia art. Other categories that could serve the purpose of description include: cybernetic poetry, techno-nostalgia and performance art. These explorations lack a clear consensus on the means, techniques and methods. Their intersection lies in the auditory investigations as well as in the relations between image, sound and touch. Nevertheless, each of the artists develops their own answers and perhaps it is only their attitudes that form groups via degrees of attraction.
